This is a sign that can be no longer found on the public transport in Zürich, but it was there for a while. As reported in Zurika.com, in 2006 the transport of the city of Zürich VBZ (Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich) installed new signs in all its buses and trams. The set of signs was including the one above to indicate “no singing, no asking for money, no advertisement, and no collect signatures”. And when you want to describe all these things together, what’s better than a mariachi?
Of course, this was not so well received by the Mexican community in Zürich, and the Mexican Embassy did formally complain about it (Here the embassy press not in Spanish).
After some apologies and a cost of 20,000 CHF in the change, VBZ changed the sign of the mariachi for a more nationality neutral one:
